Six Qatari engineers from Qatargas have completed a training programme with Chiyoda Corporation in Japan. The objective of the training was to provide the young engineers with practical knowledge in terms of design and engineering techniques of gas and hydrocarbon processing plants.

Chiyoda Corporation is a leading Japanese engineering company specialising in the construction of industrial facilities, particularly oil refineries and LNG plants.

Chiyoda has been involved in the construction of Qatargas’ LNG production facilites in Ras Laffan.

A special ceremony was held at Chiyoda’s head office in Japan to mark the successful completion of the training programme. Qatargas Chief Operating Officer (engineering and ventures) Sheikh Khalid bin Abdulla al-Thani represented the company at the ceremony.

Sheikh Khalid said: “I would like to underline with satisfaction the historical and enduring partnership that has existed between Qatargas and Chiyoda since the very establishment of our company when Chiyoda was involved in the construction of our Ras Laffan LNG production plant.

“Throughout the history of our company, Chiyoda has been there contributing its expertise and its experience in helping Qatargas become the largest supplier of liquefied natural gas in the world. We are truly proud of our association with Chiyoda over the years.”

During the programme, which concluded recently, the national graduate engineers were provided with a comprehensive overview of basic process and mechanical engineering concepts, process and instrumentation control, P&ID development and plant layout, project execution, and a wide range of associated engineering-related topics that will help them greatly in laying the foundation for a successful engineering career with Qatargas.

In addition to enhancing their technical knowledge and skills, the six engineers also benefited from learning and understanding the social life of Japan as well as the ways of Japanese business and corporate responsibility towards society.

Qatargas said it is committed to supporting Qatarisation by attracting, developing and retaining qualified nationals.Under the terms of their contract, Chiyoda Almana provides EPCm services to RasGas’ onshore and off shore operations, including a total of seven liquefi ed natural gas (LNG) plants and three gas processing plants, helium plants and other facilities operated by the energy company at Ras Laff an Industrial City.
